In the late 70s microsurgery was not accepted in most hospitals worldwide. Thanks to Professor Yaşargil and his students, microneurosurgical techniques became more popular. From that time, the constant development of the microsurgeon and his techniques became the most important factor affecting the effectiveness of surgeries. Professor Juha Hernesniemi achieved perfection in making microsurgery as simple, clean, and fast as possible. With his team from Helsinki University Hospital, he created an educational hub that any neurosurgeon interested in cranial and vascular neurosurgery had to visit.
His ongoing international relationships with many neurosurgeons and thousands of training courses entitle him to a bird's eye view analysis of the development of neurosurgery in the last 50 years.
